Symbols in Business Communication

Non-verbal communication is divided into four broad categories: Physical – This is the personal type of communication. It includes facial expressions, tone of voice, sense of touch, sense of smell, and body motions. Aesthetic – This is the type of communication that takes place through creative expressions: playing instrumental music, dancing, painting and sculpturing. Signs – This is the mechanical type of communication, which includes the use of signal flags, the 21-gun salute, horns, and sirens. Symbolic – This is the type of communication that makes use of religious, status, or day to day activitites symbols. Symbols are representations of an event, action, object, person, or place that can be used to communicate about the event, action, object, person, or place. Concrete symbols : The more a symbol resembles what it represents, the more concrete that symbol is. An example of a concrete symbol would be a spoon, used during mealtimes, to represent mealtime. Abstract symbols: The less a symbol resembles what it represents, the more abstract that symbol is. A less concrete (or more abstract) symbol would be a small line drawing of a person eating or action of eating. A symbol stands in place of an object. It may be a physical object such as a flag standing for patriotism and national pride. a cross with strong religious meaning for Christians. even the Nike swoosh or the McDonald’s arches. Or it may be a word or phrase, such as the â€Å"Jai Mata Di† printed on head bands. Symbol Representation an object used as part of the activity it represents, an object identical to the one used as part of an activity, an object similar but not identical to the object used as part of an activity, a part of an object, full-sized coloured drawing of the object, a full-sized black and white drawing of the object or a reduced-size coloured drawing of an object, a reduced-size black and white drawing of an object, a printed word. There is a similar hierarchy for movement with an object to sign: movement with an object used as part of the activity it represents, movement with an object identical to one used as part of an activity, movement with an obj ect similar to but not identical to the one used as part of an activity it represents, movement without an object Disadvantages of symbols For example, a symbol based on visual similarities may not be as concrete for a person with a visual impairment as it would be for an individual who is fully sighted. A symbol based on an action may be abstract for an individual with physical impairment such that he/she had never performed that action.

Experience teaches you all how to work smartly but to get those experience you need to work hard. I think both Hard Work and Smart Work re inter related. Smart work is absolutely necessary to achieve your goal within desirable time. Let me give an example of Smart Work-. 2 men cutting the tree, Person A took 8 hours to cut it and Person B took 5 hours to do the same job. Hard work requires sincere and dedicated efforts from ones end and for putting those efforts one has to have some goal in his life. Also, hard work gives you that confidence to face any situation in life. At the same time, in certain situations, when the urgency of task is so high, then acting smartly will be quite useful in that case. The Importance of Determining a Students Learning Style...

What does learning style mean in general? Learning style is simply the different ways a person perceives and process information. Knowing your learning style helps you to understand why you look at certain things the way you do. It also helps you to figure out when and how to use your learning style effectively as well as incorporating other learning styles as well. The way people perceive information typically range from a concrete experience to an abstract experience. Othello As He Saw Himself Essay Example For Students

Othello As He Saw Himself Essay Shakespeares Othello includes the memorable tragedy of a husbands jealousy, a wifes innocence, and mans ability to manipulate any situation. In the play Othello, Othello sees the person that he is in many different ways. For example, in Act I, Othello states that he is rude in speech and little blessed with the soft phrase of peace (scene3.83-84). This indicates that he knows his limitations and he has accepted what he does for what he is. Also, Othello is strong and valiant, but also compassionate as shown in lines 169-170: She loves me for the dangers I had passes, and I loved her that she did pity them (act 1, scene 3). Othello shows that he can forgive and move on when he said Id whistle her off and let her down the wind to prey at fortune (act 3 scene 3 lines 278-279). In writing this play, this line parallels to the action of a hawk that is released downwind so that it will not return. Similarly, Othello is saying that he would let go of Desdemona forever. This shows that he is humble and can admit defeat. Othello views himself in a very low position when he states: O, now, forever farewell the tranquil mind! Farewell content! (act 3 scene 3 lines 363-364). Also, this line suggests that he has resolved to do something and that his mind is committed to it. This shows that he is a determined man with very much self-motivation. Finally, Othello states: Of one whose hand, like the base Indian, threw a pearl away richer than all his tribe (act 5 scene 2 lines 356-358). This line compares Othello to an ignorant savage who could not recognize value. In saying this line, Othello sees the foolish man within himself in throwing away the pearl, Desdemona.

Another technique used in this film is the music during this scene. There were only two types of music, the piano and the background singing of the African prisoners which suggest a lot of things, for example the prisoners singing from different tribes could suggest co-operation and equality between tribes and the singing in Zulu meant that the commandant and Sergeant and guards could not understand what the tribes were singing about the guards being cowards and afraid. Alley Loyola moon! is what one of the prisoners was shouting out.Peaky in this scene translated the commandants speech incorrectly which gave the prisoners encouragement to bring honor to their tribe.
